Today, I had the chance to talk to Mike Pollock, the voice actor for Dr. Eggman, and even add him as a friend on Facebook. We talked for a while, and I got to ask a few questions about Sonic Boom, his career as Eggman, and many other things about Sonic as a whole.
Clash: Oh my goodness. I can't believe you actually accepted my friend request.
Clash: I just wanted to let you know I'm a huge fan of your work.
Mike Pollock: Thank you. And thanks for asking.
Clash: I'm sure you get asked this a lot, but what can we expect to see in the upcoming Sonic Boom Tv show?
Mike Pollock: Lots of sitcom-quality comedy spiced with action.
Clash: Is Eggman going to still be the main antagonist in Rise of Lyric?
Mike Pollock: Can't reveal specifics. Sorry.
Clash: Aw... Well, can you at least tell me one last thing?
Clash: Does Eggman get his Evil Ham?
Mike Pollock: Sadly, no.
Clash: Too bad. So what's Roger Craig Smith like in person? Is he a cool guy?
Mike Pollock: Extremely
Clash: What was it like when he started doing the voice of Sonic? Do you two have a good time doing the rivalry of the doctor and the hedgehog?
Mike Pollock: We didn't work together for the first couple of years until Sonic Boom was a thing.
Clash: So was most of your work done with Jason Griffith prior to this?
Mike Pollock: Again, on those we recorded separately, too. Never together.
Mike Pollock: At least not for Sonic.
Clash: Ah. What was your favorite role to voice other than Dr. Eggman?
Mike Pollock: Meat from Ultimate Muscle.
Clash: If you had to try and voice any other character in the Sonic franchise besides your current roles, who would it be?
Mike Pollock: Ella the maid, like I did in Sonic X.
Clash: I actually had no idea that was you until you explained it in one of your interviews. You did a very good job with Ella.
Mike Pollock: Thanks. Most people don't. My versatility is highly underrated.
Clash: Well, Sonic is meant for a general audience, and people shouldn't be so nitpicky on just one character's voice. Maybe it was because I was more open-minded when Sonic X first aired, only being a kid at the time, but the voices you did in there never failed to add a comical twist to it's dialogue.
Mike Pollock: Thanks. It's why they hired me, I guess.
Clash: Definately. So which incarnation of Eggman was your favorite to do? Or, which game or show was more fun to voice the doctor in?
Mike Pollock: Sonic Boom TV.
Clash: Which would you rather voice, Tails or Amy?
Mike Pollock: Whichever I was hired for. I don't play favorites. Gigs are too precious for that.
Clash: Well, that's the last question I had. Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me and provide answers!
Mike Pollock: Thanks for asking.
